About Bruce
Biography

Bruce was born and raised in Houston. He graduated from Westbury High School in 1976 where he was the "voice" of the Westbury High School Marching Band and a member of the award winning debate team.
In the Fall of 1976 Bruce enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. He was a member of the UT debate team, a student senator representing the College of Communication, and served 2 years as president of the University Young Democrats. Bruce graduated from UT in 1980 with a BS in Communications.
From 1981 through 1983 Bruce worked for the Texas Legislative Council, the Travis County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office and managed a City Council campaign. In May of 1983 Bruce joined the staff of the Planning and Research Division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office, where he worked on a wide variety of projects that included environmental, consumer and nursing home enforcement and working with the Texas Legislature. In 1985 he accepted a position as coordinator for the Travis County Sesquicentennial Committee, where he managed a variety of projects to spotlight Travis County’s rich 150 year history.

In 1987 Bruce agreed to conduct a research project regarding enforcement of child support orders for the Travis County Precinct Five Constable’s Office. The published report was the first of its kind for Travis County and helped persuade the Commissioners Court to fund a Family Unit in the Constable’s Office. Bruce became its first director.
Bruce was first elected Constable in 1992. Now serving his 5th term, he is the senior elected law enforcement official in Travis County.
Bruce is married to Lisa Harris.
